WHO WE ARE

About ChickenCount

Simple, honest tools for backyard chicken keepers, built on real data, not guesses.

ChickenCount started from a simple annoyance: every chicken feed calculator we tried online gave a single flat number and no explanation of where it came from. No mention of free-ranging, no adjustment for winter, no source for the feed rates. Just a box that spat out a guess.

We wanted something better, so we built it. Every number on this site traces back to a real source, usually university Extension guidance on backyard poultry, and every adjustment (waste, free-ranging, season) is shown to you, not hidden behind the result.

What we believe

Backyard chicken keeping should be affordable to plan for. You shouldn't need a spreadsheet or a degree in animal science to know roughly what your flock costs to feed. That's the whole premise here: clear numbers, explained plainly, free to use.

What's on the site

A feed cost calculator that adjusts for how you actually keep your flock, plus a growing set of guides on feed types, breed costs, and the real economics of keeping chickens. No account required, nothing to install, no email needed to see a number.

How we make money

This site is supported by ads and by affiliate links to products we think are genuinely useful (feed, coops, equipment). If you buy through one of those links, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. Full details are on our affiliate disclosure page. We don't accept payment to change a number or recommend a product we wouldn't use ourselves.
